By now, you’ve probably heard of the feta pasta recipe from TikTik (or even tried it for yourself). In case you’re unfamilar with the trend, you can search #fetapasta on TikTok to see what all the craze is about.
This hashtag has received over 600 million views and counting already, just on TikTok alone! Finnish food blogger Jenni Häyrinen is responsible for the craze. Her “uunifetapasta” kicked everything off back in 2018, and it has been on and popping from there. Once Americans were given the chance to learn more about the dish in January, things only got crazier after that.
As a result of the viral trend, a report from The New York Times revealed that stores all over the country are struggling to keep up with the demand for feta cheese.
Shops like Saxelby Cheesemongers are having a tough go of it, in addition to grocery stores like Kroger. “This is the largest and most geographically broad interest and sales increase in a product that I have personally ever seen,” said Walshe Birney, manager of Kroger’s specialty cheese counters, according to the New York Times.

According to a reporter from the Charlotte Observer, their local Trader Joe’s, Publix, and Harris Teeter locations are all sold out of feta.
The country is not experiencing a shortage in technical terms but there is definitely something interesting at play here. It’s become quite the year for those who make feta cheese for a living, that is for sure. When you are ready to immerse yourself in the world of feta, be sure to head to TikTok and check out the #fetapasta hashtag.SKM: below-content placeholder
