Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

When an elderly woman was moved from her trailer in Saskatchewan to a care home, she left behind 13 cats. The cats were living underneath her trailer, and without her at home, they had no one to feed them or care for them.

With temperatures dropping dangerously low and food running out, the cats desperately needed help. Thankfully, SOS Prairie Rescue stepped in and found the cats on the woman’s property.

The cats were outside in the snow, struggling to survive, so the rescue took them in. Some of the cats immediately went on to their forever homes, but some needed a bit more time to adjust to their new lives. One of those cats who was struggling was Eeyore.

The orange tabby cat looked like he’d lived through a lot already, but his new foster mom, Marcia, was determined to win him over and ensure he could live out the rest of his years in peace.

Marica got Eeyore set up with a heated space in her garage, but Eeyore refused to leave his cat house. He stayed tucked into the little hole and would hiss and bite at Marica anytime she’d approach.

Despite his attitude, Marcia continued to work on gaining his trust. She sat in the garage with him and slowly worked on getting him used to her smell and presence. She even wore thick gloves to try and pet him on occasion, but she didn’t seem to be making any progress. But then she noticed something was off.

In a video she captured of Eeyroe hissing at her, Marica noticed the poor cat’s teeth appeared to be completely rotted! It’s no wonder he was so grumpy and angry, his teeth were causing him immense amounts of pain.

Marica quickly got Eeyore into dental surgery, and after the procedure, he seemed like a whole new cat! While he was still aggressive, his demeanor shifted from defensive and hostile to more relaxed and at peace. He even placed his paw on Marica’s hand at one point, a symbol of companionship!

After 84 days in foster care, Eeyore was ready to find his forever home and he ended up with the absolute perfect family. Now, he has his very own bedroom and is being treated like the king that he is!
