Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Sweet and concentrated with wonderful fruit flavor, jellies, and jams are wonderful ways to get the taste of the countless fruit any time of year. Yet once you get near the bottom of the jar, your initial thought is to rinse and recycle it, but hold your horses. This no-recipe recipe has you using the remainding bits in the jam jar to make a dressing you can whip up in seconds.

Most recipes don’t have a 99% used jam jar listed as one of the ingredients, but this Instagram reel from the user meganreed_ does.

The sticky bit of jam residue coating the inside of the jar is the base for this recipe. First, pour in a bit of oil. Any oil will do, but for a salad dressing a nice, robust olive oil will have a lot of flavor.

Next, add a bit of balsamic vinegar.

Close the lid and seal it tightly before giving it a good shake. The oil and balsamic will remove the jam from the jar, blending it into the oil and vinegar mixture, giving you an easier pre-rinse. The jam will act like an emulsifier to create a flavorful dressing to put on top of your next batch of salad. With its fruity essence, this jam jar dressing can also be a good marinade for chicken or pork, as well as a sauce to mix with potatoes that have been roasted on a baking sheet in the oven.

So before you throw that jam jar away, try this hack and use every bit of that jam up!
