Every parent has a different way of interacting with their kids, from how they make up the lunch boxes to how bigger gestures like helping with school projects and how special treats are handled. For one dad, his daughter is the most important thing in his life and he taught himself how to sew just so that he could make her fabulous dresses. So far he’s made her at least 100 of these special dresses which he then also photographs. He even does her makeup and elaborate hairstyles as well as making some of the accessories that go with the outfits! Talk about a playing dress up.
This dad from Jiangxi, China, makes everything from modern Chanel style skirt suits to fluffy Alice in Wonderland style frocks to traditional Chinese gowns. His name is Xu Ruiqin and he makes these complicated dresses without even using a modern machine, instead sewing on an early 20th century belt-driven sewing machine (with gorgeous decals) that was passed down to him from his mother.
Ruiqin also sometimes embellishes the dresses with hand embroidery or sequins as well – all of which takes a lot of time and patience. But, it seems there’s nothing this talented dad cannot do.
He started making the dresses when his daughter was only 4-years-old. He said he wanted her to have vibrant and happy memories from the places they went together and he thought that making her princess dresses and other fabulous frocks would do just that.
Sadly when he first started this father-daughter hobby he was afraid for people to find out since he worried they would judge a man who sews. But, his family encouraged him to share his stunning creations online and soon he learned to be proud of his designs which he creates from scratch.
Commenters online have been saying that with his imagination and skill he could easily open his own fashion house and we have to agree.
