Microwaves are a wonderful modern convenience—but did you know you might be under-using yours? Sure, everybody knows that microwaves are great for heating up leftovers, but there are a lot of other applications for your microwave that can make your life more convenient. Here are just a few novel applications that you may not have thought about.

1. Making Poached Eggs

It’s easy to poach eggs in the microwave. Boil water in a kettle and fill a microwave-safe bowl 3/4 of cup full. Add a touch of vinegar and crack an egg into the liquid, piercing the yolk with a toothpick. Cover the bowl in plastic wrap, and microwave on full power for 30 seconds. Flip the egg and repeat for 20 seconds.

2. Frothing Milk for Your Latte

Use nonfat or 2 percent milk. Vigorously shake the milk in a sealed, microwave-safe container until foam forms. Then, pop the container in the microwave for a few seconds. The microwave stabilizes the foam so you can scoop it off with a spoon and add it to your morning or afternoon coffee.
