Homes that have been made out of shipping containers are becoming more and more common these days. While most would associate these homes with industrial designers, this story is the exception to that rule. This Kansas City homeowner is well known to many, as they have been responsible for designing various Mattel toys. They’ve even designed some Barbie dolls in their time.

This home is spacious, extending beyond 2,000 square feet. It took five shipping containers to construct this beauty. It’s what’s known as “shabby chic” and we are totally enamored with it. The dream dwelling has received a lot of attention and for very good reason. We are used to the shipping container homes that still look very much like a shipping container. This home happens to be a bit different.

Debbie Glassberg’s shipping container home blends in well and does not look like the sort of eyesore that you would expect. These homes will typically resemble a shipping container from the outside but this one does not. There are three bathrooms and two bedrooms to choose from as well. This is definitely not like the typical shipping containers home that we have seen.

Many of these homes are about scaling back and downsizing. This home is anything but that. Debbie’s digs are very spacious, but the design is incredibly efficient. The house is designed in a manner that allows for maximum energy-saving capabilities. Plant form insulation and geothermal heating are utilized and the carbon footprint has been decreased significantly.
