Butter is one of those staples we can’t substitute. Alongside milk and a loaf of bread, it’s one of those essentials that has a tenured place in the refrigerator. However, a recent recall is affecting one of the major brands of butter.

Cabot Creamery issued a recall to pull their 8-ounce premium sea salt butter. The butter comes in two individually wrapped 4-ounce sticks. According to the company Agri-Mark Inc., testing of the butter revealed high levels of coliform, bacteria found in fecal matter.
While not as deadly as some other bacteria, coliform still isn’t good. Specific to warm-blooded animals and humans, this type of bacteria can be an indication of other unwanted pathogens that could pose a greater risk.
The FDA categorized the contamination as a Class III recall, which is on the lower end of severity in terms of recalls. Luckily, the testing was done early, and the company was able to recall around 99.5 percent of the affected 189 cases of butter. The remaining amount still made it to the market, with it being distributed to Arkansas, Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New York, and Vermont.

This affected butter has an expiration date of September 9th, 2025, a UPC code of 0 78354 62038 0, has a lot of codes of 072 and 073, and a timestamp range of 22:00 through 00:30. If you think that you have purchased the recalled butter, you can contact the company at info@cabotcreamery.com or 1-888-792-2268 (Monday through Friday, 9:30 AM to 5 PM EST). People are advised to not consume the butter and to discard it immediately.
