Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Now that families are staying home due to the pandemic, they are starting to miss some of the things that they enjoyed when everything was open. This includes theater, art classes, and similar options. Disney is doing what they can to help those people, thanks to The Lion King on Broadway and Disney Theatrical Productions. Free virtual theater courses are being released to teach children and families about what is needed to put on such a legendary show. They are offering it free of charge.

The course is Lion King productions and now that we are on lockdown, it’s a great way to continue the theater education while schools and classes are not being held. There are two sets to the curriculum, Kids, which is for ages 8-11 and, Junior, which is for ages 12-15.

A 45-minute lesson, PDF worksheet, and online videos and resources go along with each set. It covers everything from writing original music to designing stage lighting and creating costume elements. Every video features an introduction from Jelani Remy and Syndee Winters, who were part of the Broadway production.

As children work through the Lion King curriculum, they can track their progress with a daily journal and worksheets. The course is completed when they share a mini-production with people in their homes. A completed certificate will also be provided.

The curriculum to those classes can be downloaded from LionKingExperience.com. You can get some inspiration by watching the movie on Disney Plus.

For children who love performing in the theater, it can be extra hard to be on lockdown. This is another way that Disney is helping, but for fans of Lion King and those who love theater, more is available. A teaching artist from Disney will also lead a live musical theater workshop on the Disney on Broadway Instagram. It is available starting at 1230 Eastern.
