When a yellow labrador named Benny found himself at an animal shelter in Utah, things weren’t looking good for him. The high-kill shelter listed Benny on its euthanasia list, and the days were ticking down.

According to ABC 7 news, Benny was on his last day at the shelter before they were going to kill him when someone stepped in and offered him a home!

Benny’s new owner, Rick Vierkandt, wanted to show the world what rescue dogs can do, so he got 8-year-old Benny out onto the ice and taught him a bunch of tricks.

Not only did Benny learn how to ice skate with custom-made skates, but he was also taught to skateboard and carry a hockey stick.

It wasn’t long before Benny made his debut appearance at the Wollman Rink in Central Park to show off his ice skating skills while raising money for the Animal Vision Foundation.

Benny has since performed at ice skating events across the country to raise money for various charities. He’s an inspiration, and also a talented athlete!

Benny’s owner shared that the pup genuinely seems to enjoy skating and performing. According to ABC 7 news, Rick said, “He’ll just run on the ice whenever he wants and skate around after me and chase me and so he really does like it.”
