Beef Power Bowl (The Viral “Dog Food” Bowl)
Recreating the viral dog food bowl with some extra goodies!

What is a dog food bowl for humans? It’s a new-age term for a high-protein bowl with very straightforward components. Rice, beef, eggs, and cottage cheese. Making a delicious, freshly seasoned rice with caramelized ground beef and fluffy scrambled eggs can be art when you take time to cook it in a way that serves you. Top it off with some extra protein and a cold component in cottage cheese that really brings all the pieces of the puzzle together. The cherry on top is the fresh herb component with green onion, but use your favorite fresh herb.

A power bowl can be whatever you make of it, just keep it simple.

Let’s talk about the secrets to perfecting these easy components. The rice cooker makes you for a flawless execution of rice, BUT I love to use a good ol’ fashioned pot with water. Tip one, rinse the rice, tip two is to bring the rice to a boil in the water from cold. The perfect way to cook rice is to bring it to a boil, reduce the heat to low, and finish cooking for 10 minutes completely covered. Turn off the heat at that point and let it rest covered for 5 minutes. Great rice every time.

Let’s talk about perfecting the eggs and the beef. Now I know you’re thinking “I’ve been making cooked ground beef since forever, there is no perfect way.” Lie! Get your pan roaring hot and add your seasoned beef in on block, then break up your beef into four pieces. Flatten it with your spatula, so more parts can get caramelized. The more caramelization, the more flavor.
Once the beef is cooked add your eggs right to the beef pan. Turn off your heat and let the residual heat from the pan finish the eggs. Gently move your eggs around the pan with a rubber spatula to create fluffy curds. Once the mixture is semi-firm and no runny bits remain, start to break it up into pieces. This will result in a juicy not-overcooked scrambled egg.

This recipe makes for a great easy weeknight meal that can all get done in less than 15 minutes. Start your rice, cook your beef, eggs, and assemble. Use what you have any enjoy getting some satisfying protein in your dinner.
