“Today I’m doing Manhattan, three ways, because it has been served and made in different ways throughout its history. I made three versions of this classic cocktail with whiskey, sweet vermouth, and bitters, by using recipes from 1884, 1887, and the well-known modern version,” he explains in the video. All three of these versions call for sweet vermouth and whiskey, in case you are at all curious.

The preparation process is what differs between these three beverages. Rye and gum syrup is used to create the 1884 version. Once it has been prepared, it is served in a pony glass. Gum syrup is also included in the 1887 version but there is a reversal when it comes to the portions of whiskey and vermouth that are offered. These drinks are also shaken and not stirred.

2 parts whiskey, 1 part vermouth, and 4 dashes of bitters are used for the modern twist on the Manhattan cocktail. A martini glass or coupe is used to serve these drinks.

An old-fashioned glass can be used as well, as this variation is served on the rocks. We are loving all of these helpful tips and pointers, as it is much easier to differentiate between each drink now.
