Oatmeal cookies always remind me of weekends with my grandparents. I’d spend all morning outside helping Grandpa with chores, and then come inside and bake oatmeal cookies with Grandma.

These oatmeal cookies are a little different than the ones I used to make, but I think they might be better. Shh! Don’t tell my grandma! The recipe starts out familiar enough with butter, sugar, flour, and eggs. Then we add some shortening to make the cookies extra savory, as well as banana pudding mix and mashed bananas.

To get started on these delicious cookies, preheat the oven to 350°. Prepare cookie sheets by either greasing them or using a silicone baking mat, then set them aside. Next in a large bowl, cream together butter, shortening, brown sugar, and white sugar. Beat for 2-3 minutes. Add eggs and vanilla and beat for another 1-2 minutes. Add in pudding mix and banana and mix until combined.

Then, in a separate bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt. Add this mixture to the wet ingredients and stir until just combined. Stir in oats just until barely combined. Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls onto prepared cookie sheets and bake for 9-11 minutes or until the edges just barely begin to turn a light golden brown. Let cool for a few minutes before enjoying!

Trust me, this is one variation that might just be better than the original! Get the full ingredient list and step-by-step instructions below.
