Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

I don’t know about you, but I’m ready for spring. I can’t wait for warm weather, longer days, and sunshine! But when life gives you lemons – or in this case, snow – you just have to make the best of it. And that is exactly what the two engineers, Theresa Rojek and Jeff Brown, decided to do in the backyard of their home in Buffalo, New York.

But rather than just making a couple of snowmen or making snow angels, this couple went all out. They built an igloo!

As Jeff confessed in an interview with ABC News, “I always wanted to build one.”

With the wintertime weather, what better excuse to try making one? Jeff is a mechanical engineer while Theresa is a software engineer. The two had actually attempted one last year, an attempt that Theresa referred to as “our prototype.” And from there it just became a growing project.

As Jeff shared, the couple first got the idea to start building an igloo over the course of the pandemic. Like many of us, they had to find solutions to an ever-changing world.

As he explained with regards to COVID, Jeff said, “It started when the whole pandemic hit. I thought, ‘This is a bummer, let’s do something where people can come and gather. We’re outdoors, we can have fun, have a campfire.”

From there, the igloo started to take shape and was formed into something incredible. The igloo structure stands at an impressive 8 feet, and is a full 16 feet in length. The couple even managed to create windows in the structure.

The whole project took them an entire week to build, but it was well worth it since the structure can hold several people inside it. Most impressively, they also managed to install a campfire in the middle of their igloo!
