Science is split on the wisdom of inviting your dog into your bed. Some people swear they sleep better with their dog nearby. Others are equally certain dogs require their own bed on the floor.

Now a new study conducted by the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Arizona, hopes to settle this question once and for all! According to a survey of 150 dog owners, 4 in 10 people reported better sleep when their pooch shared the bed. Some of their reasons may surprise you!

Participants said simply being near their dog also helps them feel calmer, so it makes sense that relaxed feeling would continue into the twilight hours if your pooch was snoozing nearby
