4-ingredient Baked Apples
From the kitchen of King Kong star Fay Wray comes this extremely simple desert with outstanding flavor. Similar desserts were described by folks who lived through the 1930s when economical cooking was the norm most places. Well, there’s nothing more economical than a dish like this. This recipe was published in 1927 in a Photoplay cookbook of the stars.

Baked apples in various forms have been extremely popular dishes for centuries. They’re easy, familiar, and so tasty! These apples have honey instead of sugar on them for a more rounded, rich flavor. I was skeptical that such a small amount of sweetener would make these apples taste so amazing. But, this recipe is 100% a no-fail dessert.

You’ll need to peel and core these apples to prepare them. You don’t really need to worry about if they turn brown from being peeled as they will turn dark in the oven anyways.

I cored these with an old school paring knife and it made the holes bigger. This is just as well because I had the idea to fill the holes with whipped cream and this left more space for the delicious cream.

The whipped cream is an add on, as is the sprinkle of cinnamon. You could also add a pinch of cardamom or other spices if you wanted.

Then top with some chopped pecans and you’re ready to dig into these tender, sweet, wonderful apples.

4-ingredient Baked Apples

I love how easy these are and how you can customize them with no issues since they turn out perfect every single time.

Ingredients
  • 6 apples, cored and peeled
  • 6 tablespoons honey
  • 1/4 cup water or more as needed
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans
  • Optional: sprinkle of cinnamon
Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350˚F. Place apples in pan and fill each empty core with a tablespoon of honey, drizzling some on the outside of the apple as well. Gently pour water into bottom of pan.
  2. Bake for 50-60 minutes, adding more water if needed to prevent apples from scorching. If water cooks off before apples are tender add more water to the pan.
  3. When ready to serve sprinkle with optional cinnamon and/or pecans. Can also be served with some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.
