After a slew of recent illnesses and hospitalizations due to Listeria contamination of other products – most recently, frozen vegetables and sunflower seeds – Quaker Oats issued a voluntary recall of their Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars on Monday.

  • 6.1 ounce boxes of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Chocolate Nut Medley with UPC code 30000 32241 and Best Before Dates of: 10/16/2016, 10/17/2016
  • 6.1 ounce boxes of Quaker Quinoa Granola Bars Yogurt, Fruit & Nut with UPC 30000 32243 and Best Before Dates of: 10/10/2016, 10/11/2016

While there are no reported illnesses yet in relation to these Quaker products, after discovering an ingredient supplier to have distributed sunflower kernels that may have been contaminated with the Listeria organism, Quaker pulled said product from shelves in an effort to “protect public health.”

Causing serious (and sometimes fatal) infection, Listeria symptoms include nausea, severe headache, fever, stiffness, abdominal pain and diarrhea, but can also cause stillbirths or miscarriages among pregnant women.
