What Are Peeps Really Made Of?
Easter time means that spring is really here. And with spring comes many different Easter treats. Besides chocolate eggs, the next most well-known treat is Peeps.
No Easter season would be complete without them, despite the fact that they can be quite controversial.

You either love them or hate them. There is no in-between. At least, not many people seem to think so. I personally am indifferent to them, but I’ve known some people who are vehemently against or for the multicolored Peeps.
As a kid, I used to think that they were made of marshmallows, but the truth about what goes into them is a little more complicated than what one thinks.

According to Simplemost, Newsy has done an investigation into the colorful Easter treat to see what exactly goes into them.
The official ingredients of Peeps are sugar, corn syrup, gelatin, and potassium sorbate, as well natural flavors. But the most interesting thing to go into them is a little unusual: carnauba wax.

The name might sound familiar if you happen to know your way around car wax. The carnauba wax in Peeps is what is used to give the little chicks their glossy eyes.
The carnauba wax is also known as Brazil wax and palm wax. This wax comes from the leaves of the carnauba palm, which is a plant that only grows in the northeastern part of Brazil.
