One of the things that many of us appreciate about flying is the fact that it is a fairly standard way to travel. There may be a surprise here or there, but for the most part, we just get from one place to another and we do so very conveniently.

That wasn’t necessarily the case for those who were traveling to Las Vegas from Texas on April 24. They were about to witness something that very few people have seen in the air: a wedding.

It took place onboard Southwest flight 2690 when Pam Patterson and Jeremy Salda stood up to exchange vows. They weren’t expecting to have their wedding on the flight but they had missed their opportunity in Las Vegas because they had missed a previous flight.

When they arrived at the airport, they were already prepared for the wedding in Sin City. They were dressed in full wedding attire, but because they were not making enough headway to make their appointment for their wedding, they were getting anxious.

Fortunately, there was an ordained minister named Chris on board who had an idea. He offered to have them exchange vows on board the flight, so they took action.

Although the flight was nearly full, they were able to purchase the last three seats on a Southwest flight heading to Las Vegas. The pilot, Captain Gil, saw that she was wearing a wedding dress have offered that they get married while they were in the air.

The airline crew helped out by decorating the cabin with toilet paper streamers. There was also a snack mix sash that was provided for the minister and one was even there as her maid of honor.

As luck would have it, there was also a professional photographer that was on the same flight. They were able to snap some wedding photos and a notebook was passed around so that other passengers could offer their best wishes to the new couple.

Southwest Airlines had something to say about this on their Facebook page. They wrote: “Congrats to the newlyweds on a memorable inflight wedding neither our Employees nor Passengers are likely to forget! We can’t wait to welcome you back aboard the love airline. #SouthwestHeart.”
