Scones always make me feel extra fancy, and sometimes that’s just what I need. Today, I have a triple chocolate scone recipe that’s rich, dense, and covered in dark chocolate. If you’ve never made scones from scratch before, don’t fret! I used to think scones were for professional bakers only, but it turns out they aren’t that difficult to make right at home!

This recipe includes cocoa powder, brown sugar, chocolate chips, and a dark chocolate drizzle. Add in a sprinkle of cinnamon to bring out the earthy flavors in the dark chocolate, and a bit of buttermilk to make everything smooth and rich, and you’ve got yourself one delicious scone. If you’re in the mood for chocolate, this is the dessert for you.

To get started on these mouthwatering scones, preheat the oven to 400 degrees. Then, stir together the flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon in a large mixing bowl. Add cold butter and cut in with a fork or pastry blender until it is coarse crumbs. Stir in mini chocolate chips. Make a hole in the center of the flour mixture.

In a separate bowl, whisk together egg, vanilla, and buttermilk. Pour into the center of the flour and stir until dough comes together. Do not overwork the dough. Divide the dough into 2 equal parts. Place each ball on a baking sheet. With floured hands, shape each ball into a 6-inch circle. Cut each circle into 6 wedges.

Refrigerate the dough for 15-30 minutes, then bake for 18 minutes. Let cool on a wire rack. Finally, heat dark chocolate melts in the microwave in 30 seconds intervals, stirring in between. Place melted chocolate in a plastic bag with the tip cut off. Drizzle over the tops of the scones. Trust me, this is a must-try recipe for any chocolate lovers out there!
