Dating can be hard these days, it seems. People are always complaining about the struggles that they experience but fortunately, there are some folks out there who are still willing to show us the way.
Take this story, for instance. Tyler (also known as @tygreenmtn on TikTok) is here to share the awesome advice that he got from an older woman.
He posted the clip in response to another post. The other user was fretting over the anxiety that is caused because of the close relationship between texting and dating. This is when Tyler offered up the advice that he got, which he is quick to call the best he has ever received.
Even though the advice is very modern in nature, he lets us know that he actually got this helpful pointer from someone who is older than him.
“Honestly the best dating advice I ever got came from a boomer who was telling me about how — before all the digital technologies that we’re native on — how did they discern if someone liked them or not,” said Tyler.
The older woman told Tyler that there was nothing to worry about from an over-analysis standpoint. All of these aspects of dating existed before texting. However, there is one key difference that she was sure to clarify for the young man. “She was like, ‘Sure, we would still be trying to read into what people said, and their actions, or whether they called on the phone,’” Tyler began.
Nowadays, these interactions are far more frequent and this gives us more to chew on mentally. “Are they spending time with you?” he says. “Are they making plans to do stuff with you?” This makes all of the sense in the world to us. If someone really likes you, they are going to make concrete plans to hang out with you.
Anything else is just them stringing you along, for the most part. In other words, do not worry about texting frequency, worry about whether they actually want to spend time with you. “I think that we lose that perspective sometimes,” Tyler says. “If someone’s not texting you 24/7 — sure, that’s data. But when I catch myself overthinking text exchanges, I think of the boomers.”
