Do you have a few pennies just taking up space in a coin jar somewhere? We’ve got the perfect DIY project for you! You’ll need pennies (obviously), a pan and strainer, some white vinegar, and salt. Curious as to what the end result will be? Check out the step-by-step process below and see for yourself!
1. Wash The Pennies
First things first. Grab a tub or container for your pennies and wash them with soap, water, and baking soda. Make sure to scrub them off and get them all clean! Then, straine the water so you have just the pennies left. Put them back in the container to get ready for the next step.
2. Add Salt & Vinegar
Here’s where the magic happens. After putting the pennies back in the container, add one cup of white vinegar and one cup of salt. Mix the pennies around, making sure to coat them in the mixture. Set a timer for thirty minutes and leave the pennies in the tub.
3. Dry Them Out
Once the thirty minutes is up, drain the pennies and lay them out in a single layer on a sheet pan to dry. As you can see, the effect makes the pennies look rustic, which makes them fun to use for different projects around the house!
4. Decorate
You can use these pennies to decorate letters to hang up on the front door or around the house. This would be a perfect item to add to any rustic or shabby chic themed room. You can also glue them onto a glass bowl and use it as lawn decor. The sky really is the limit!
