Social media is a great way to find new and inventive ways to cut down on time in the kitchen, and this hack that’s been floating around has made waves for making mashed potatoes. The hack, tried out by TikTok user momlifewithlaura shows that potato prep doesn’t have to be painful.

Simply wash the outside of the potato (skin and all) and then take a knife and run the blade around the center circumference of the potato, making sure not to cut through the potato completely.

Next, drop the prepped potatoes into water and boil them until cooked through or can be easily pierced with a fork.

Take the potatoes and remove the skin from the potato by pressing and pulling from the potato end tips, and the skin will come off in one or several large chunks.

This potato peel trick is great, especially with mini potatoes that are a hassle to peel. It cuts down on peeling the skin one small strand at a time and cuts down on mess with fewer tiny bits of potato scattered on top of the kitchen counter.
