One of the different types of milk that may have caused you to stop and think for a moment was organic milk. Trying to figure out the difference between regular and organic milk may take a little bit of thought, but there are some things you should realize before you pull out your wallet and pay the big price.

Healthline reports that there are a number of key differences between regular and organic milk. According to the article, some studies show that organic milk has a higher concentration of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, along with vitamin E and iron.

It’s interesting that farming practices associated with organic milk may make the difference and it might not have anything to do with labeling requirements. To break it down on a simple level, when cows are allowed to graze openly, they are likely to have more vitamins that end up in the milk.

Another factor that you will likely find interesting is that organic dairy livestock are not given antibiotics. They can be given vitamin supplements and botanicals, but no antibiotic treatments are provided. As a result, regular milk is likely to have higher levels of drugs in the final product. That being said, it is still considered to be safe levels.

There are also likely fewer calories and less protein in regular milk compared to organic milk. Those numbers are going to be insignificant for the most part.

What it really comes down to is a personal choice. You have to do what is right for you and your family and you also need to keep your budget in mind. It may be worth trying organic milk and if you find that you like it, it might be worth the extra money.
