M&M’s has all kinds of different flavors. But they also have their own animated characters that are as iconic as their candy.
And now, they’re about to add a new character to their M&Ms lineup as they bring out the new purple peanut M&M!
That is correct, the M&M lineup is getting a purple one, and it’s the first new M&M character to join the group in 10 years!
Not only that, but Purple will also be the first female peanut M&M. Purple will be joining the two other peanut M&M’s, Yellow and Blue, as well as the four regular M&M colors, Brown, Red, Green and Orange. She will also be in good company, as Brown and Green are also female M&M characters.
Speaking of their newest addition, Mars, Inc. said that Purple was designed with the purple of represent acceptance and inclusivity amongst the M&M’s family, as she is “known for her earnest self-expression” as well as her authenticity and confidence.
Jane Hwang, global vice president at Mars Wrigley, explained in a press statement, “Mars is thrilled to debut the newest member of the M&M’s cast of characters to the world. There is so much about our new spokescandy that people can relate to and appreciate, including her willingness to embrace her true self. Our new character reminds us to celebrate what makes us unique.”
While Purple might be the newest character, it isn’t the first time that M&Ms have brought out a purple version of the candy. For example, it is totally possible to purchase whatever color M&M you want on the website.
Also, the color has been used before in special Halloween holiday packets, such as their Mad Scientist Mix. As for purple peanut M&M’s, those can be bought as part of a limited edition “Be You” jar which can be purchased in stores or online through their website. However, it’s not clear whether or not the purple peanut will M&M will be part of the normal packages.
The announcement of the new Purple character debuted with a song and music video titled “I’m Just Gonna Be Me.”
The performance also features a guest appearance by the rest of the M&M character lineup. If you really like the song, you can stream it through all major music streaming platforms, and don’t be ashamed to stream it multiple times, as each stream of the song will result in a $1 donation being made to Sing for Hope – a non-profit organization that focuses on music as a means of connecting people worldwide.
