Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

After the deadly Kentucky tornadoes took place, citizens were left to pick up the pieces of their shattered lives. These folks were going to need help to get back on their feet.

Jim Finch decided that he would be one of the good folks who took time out to help. “It just needed to be done,” Jim Finch said. This selfless man packed up his vehicle, bringing a truckload of food and a grill!

These are the types of selfless gestures that make a world of difference during times like these. While there are plenty of people out there who wish that they could help, Finch was not about to let himself get sidetracked. He may live a few towns over from Mayfield, Kentucky but he could not allow this tragedy to go unnoticed.

This past weekend was filled with tragedy for residents of this region. Between Friday night and Saturday morning, 44 tornadoes took place across nine states. We cannot even begin to fathom how terrifying this must have been for all parties involved. Fortunately, good people like Jim Finch are on hand, ready and willing to help all those who suddenly found themselves in need.

The world is full of unlikely heroes and these heroes do not always wear a cape. All we can do in these instances is tip our cap and give them our most sincere thanks. In Finch’s mind, there is nothing heroic about what he has done here. He’s simply doing the best that he can to help out those who are in need.

“I know they don’t have no electricity, so that means they don’t have no electric, no restaurants, no running water, so I just figured I’d do what I can do,” Finch said to ABC News. “Show up with some food and some water.” These tornadoes have left no shortage of damage in their wake and that’s what makes the efforts of Good Samaritans like Finch so important.

Finch is said to have been smiling the whole time and he was even asked at one point if he owns a restaurant. After all, he must own a restaurant in order to have this much food to provide. Nothing could be further from the truth, though. He’s just a kind, decent man who wanted to do whatever he could to help.
