Making pasta at home is surprisingly easy!
Who doesn’t love a good pasta dinner? Whether it’s a classic spaghetti and meatball situation, or something more adventurous like this Caprese pasta, there’s no doubt that pasta dinners are a fan favorite. Everyone in the family loves a tasty meal with lots of noodles, and I love how easy they are to make! If you want to take your pasta game to the next level, skip the prepackaged noodles and make your own spaghetti! It’s easier than you might think, especially with the help of a KitchenAid mixer.
First things first. There are a ton of recipes of pasta out there, but I’m partial to simple, easy dough recipes, especially when it comes to pasta. After all, the real flavor comes from the sauce! This easy dough is simply 3 cups of flour, 4 eggs, 1/2 teaspoon of salt, and about 1/4 cup of water (start with 1/8 cup and add more as necessary).
Once all of your ingredients are in the bowl, mix on setting two with the flat paddle attachment for thirty seconds. The dough will be sticky, but that’s ok. Scrape the pasta dough off of the flat paddle and then attach the dough hook. Mix for 2 minutes.
After the allotted time, remove the dough and wrap it in plastic wrap, making sure it’s sealed up tight so as to prevent the dough from getting crusty. Let it rest for 20 minutes. When the 20 minutes are up, remove the plastic wrap and cut into four sections to make the dough easier to handle.
Grab a section of the dough and feed it through the flat pasta attachment. Start on setting one, then fold the dough in half and feed it through again on setting two. Repeat this process for setting three and finally setting four. You may have to cut the dough in half a few times if it gets too long to handle.
Once you’ve worked your way through the dough and have your thin, flat strips of pasta, it’s time to use the spaghetti attachment. Simply snap the attachment on and then run the flat strips of pasta through to get beautiful, homemade spaghetti! You can store the fresh pasta in an airtight container for a few days in the fridge, or cook the pasta and store in the freezer.
