I love cooking. I love trying out new recipes and making something that is new and exciting – and with the right lighting and plating, can look like it looks it belongs in a four-star or five-star restaurant.

But sometimes I don’t always feel like going all out for a gourmet meal at home that I have to make myself. That is usually when fast food comes in handy. However, can fast food ever go the other way around? In other words, can it ever be recreated with a gourmet twist?

Well, one YouTuber, Jet Bent-Lee, has a video series dedicated to turning fast food into gourmet food. However, Jet doesn’t do it himself.

Instead, he challenges his father, Susur Lee of Top Chef Canda and Food Network‘s Iron Chef America, to take a common fast-food item and turn it into a gourmet experience.

In one of his videos, he gets his dad to recreate Chipotle’s Chicken Burrito Bowl, as well as their Tortilla Chips accompanied by their Corn Salsa, Tomatillo Green-Chili Salsa, and Queso.

Of course, in order to be able to start cooking, Susur must look at everything that he’s working with. He starts out by carefully dissecting the food, taking careful inventory of the ingredients and what he’s got to work with. And then the magic can begin.

Chef Susur starts out by using the rice in the bowl to create his own version of horchata, before going about mixing French and Mexican influences to come up with a puff pastry pie. He then plates up his creations and gives them a lovely little presentation to make them look fancy, and voila!
