David Bowie’s tragic death in 2016 rocked us all and few felt the impact of his loss more than his wife, Iman.
While she was unable to handle spending time in their home in the Catskills, New York at first, the COVID-19 pandemic gave her the chance to find some peace. We cannot even begin to fathom her level of grief but she is slowly finding her way back to normalcy.
“The house really saved me during COVID, because before that I had a hard time staying here. I will come here for a weekend and leave the next day, because I felt very sad here, because I missed him so much. The house actually helped me go through my grief and come the other side. And that is what’s so special to me about this house,” Iman shared with Vogue.
This clip is a touching watch, as Iman takes us through the home and shows us all sorts of items that have sentimental value for her.
These items have been collected over the course of many years, as she has made a wide range of friends. Iman even showed us the items that she was given that helped her during the grieving process.
She received countless pieces of art and various sculptures throughout the course of their marriage. Fellow model Naomi Campbell gave her a pillow and she also showed us a drawing that her daughter, Alexandria Zahra Jones, made for them.
Iman gave us further insights into her spiritual practices, showing us stones that have been stacked outside the home. It’s a practice that she credits with providing her the spiritual balance that she craves.
“I started to create stacked stones all around the property, just to calm myself down, to feel the balance. Some cultures use it for in memory of someone, and others use it, actually, as navigation. For example, people use it when you are hiking, you leave stack stone, so you can tell the next person coming that they are on the right track.”
“Supermodel Iman takes us inside her Catskills home that is full of beautiful, artistic odes to David Bowie. From a self-portrait he painted in 1980 to a Lynn Chadwick sculpture she gave Bowie for their first wedding anniversary, watch as Iman shares some of the items most important to herself,” the description reads, but words cannot do this video justice. You will simply have to watch for yourself!
