If you’ve ever had an opportunity to eat at TGI Friday’s, or as the restaurant is now known as, “Fridays,” you likely got a hamburger. They are known for their hamburgers, so they also know a thing or two about how to eat them.
Recently, Fridays has made a claim that many people have been eating them improperly. In fact, it is so improper that we have been eating them upside down.
Fridays has now instituted a “Flip It Challenge,” where they want people to try to eat a hamburger according to their standards. They posted it on Instagram, saying:
“According to our experts, the best way to eat a burger is to flip it upside down. The thicker top bun soaks up the burger juices, helping keep that flavor in for longer.”
A hamburger expert through that restaurant also said that when you eat a hamburger upside down, it usually tastes better because the top bun is thicker. In other words, the juices from the burger are absorbed into the thicker bun and it brings more flavor to every bite.
Another reason why eating your hamburger “upside-down” may be of benefit is because your tongues get to the toppings before they get to the meat.
According to the New York Post, that expert went on to explain further, saying: “Whether that tastes better to you is down to personal preference — so give it a try and let us know what you find!”
This may be unusual to you but there are others who are in the know who said the topper bun should go underneath first. This includes Simon Dukes, who founded the Burger Lad blog. He said: “Burgers are served the way they are purely for aesthetics.”
His explanation was similar, saying that for a better eating experience, you should flip your hamburger upside down and eat it. The thicker bun would hold the weight of everything.
Simon went so far as to say that a true burger connoisseur should “always eat their burgers upside down.”
Looks like I have something interesting to try the next time I eat a hamburger.
