The world can use a lot more kindness, and sometimes the smallest act of kindness can have the biggest impact.
One TikTok user, Demi Lee, managed to capture a random act of kindness on her social media page and shared the story of her trip to a 7-Eleven gas station in Las Vegas. She was there picking up some lighter fluid when she got to chatting with the cashier.
She quickly learned that he’d been working nonstop for hours and didn’t even have time to grab some food. Rather than just leaving, she promised him she’d come back with some dinner for him. As Lee explained, he didn’t think she was actually going to do it. But to his surprise, Lee stayed true to her word.
She showed up later that night with a plate full of food for the overworked cashier. He was pleasantly surprised and could be heard gasping on the video.
Lee replied to him, “I told you I was coming back.” And he responded with a “you’re the best” when he started going through the package and finding quite the homemade feast: tips, mac and cheese, and baked beans. He was so excited and happy with the food.
As soon as Lee posted her TikTok video, it went viral. The clip has been viewed close to 6 million views, received more than 1 million likes, and garnered close to 10K comments. While most people commented on how delicious Lee’s food looked, others took the time to commend her for her kindness.
One person commented, “As a gas station worker specifically night shift, y’all have no idea how much the smallest things mean to us. Lots of negative people walk in daily.”
Someone else wrote, “Over the years there’s been so many times I’ve worked the holidays because I didn’t have any kids. And when someone would bring me a plate of food that they cooked themselves, I thanked them so much, and then when they left, I went by myself and cried like a baby.”
Since the video received such a positive response, Lee has become inspired to continue to bring home-cooked meals to other hardworking employees at gas stations. She is taking suggestions as to where she should go next.
Lee is even receiving donations so she can purchase ingredients to continue making home-cooked meals for the gas station workers in her area.
