Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Our freezers allow us to maximize the shelf life of our favorite foods and significantly reduce the amount of household waste that occurs. The freezer also allows us to utilize more of our fridge space. What’s not to love? While most of us remain under the impression that our frozen foods are always going to be fresh and edible, there are certain foods that still need to be thrown away after a given amount of time.

Thankfully, there is a helpful chart that will teach you everything that you need to know about freezer storage. We recommend printing it out and placing it in an area of the kitchen where you are sure to look at it on a regular basis.

Most breads and meats can last for a significant amount of time in the freezer, but you will want to make sure that you are consulting with the chart first.

We are also guilty of putting items in the freezer that should not actually go in there. For example, deli products cannot be placed in the freezer under any circumstances. Coffee, mayo, sour cream, cream cheese, buttermilk, salads, salad dressing, cereal, apples, eggplant, and lettuce are also among the items that cannot be placed in the freezer.

Our favorite part of this chart was learning about all of the common meals that can be stored in the freezer for longer periods of time than we originally thought!
