Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

There is something nice about staying in a hotel. It gets us away from our home for a while and many of us appreciate the fact that we can go down and get breakfast in the morning.

It seems as if that morning breakfast may be something that is better avoided, thanks to the revelations from a former hotel employee. The social media user from Tennessee shares her information on TikTok and more than 1.5 million people have watched it.

Brandy Augustine, the 36-year-old former hotel worker, tells us why we should always avoid the continental breakfast. To put it simply, it’s downright disgusting.

She says: “If your hotel serves, like, a hot continental breakfast or whatever — eggs, waffles, stuff like that — don’t eat that s–t.” She then goes on to urge people not to eat the free breakfast.

One of the reasons why she is so against eating the free breakfast is because of some of her training. The night auditor who was her trainer taught her to only use a single paper towel all night to clean everything. He reasoned that it was environmentally friendly, but let’s face it, it’s disgusting and cheap.

Another issue has to do with the raw bread and pastries. According to the New York Post, Augustine shared with Jam Press that when they were handled, gloves weren’t used and hands were not washed. They would put out things from the buffet that came from the day prior, so who knows how many people touched it!

As far as Augustine is concerned, you should stay away from eating the free meal at almost every hotel. She even brings out that “sausage is not supposed to be grey.”

She then went on to hit one of the favorite areas for many people, the waffle station. It should be avoided because they use the leftover batter over and over again until it begins smelling like beer.

In fact, she claims that she lost all hope when she was asked to smell the batter to make sure it was still good. The New York Post reports she said: “That completely soured my stomach, as the batter had a slight smell to it but the container was a little over half full — so instead of wasting the old batter, I was told to just mix new batter into it and the smell would go away.”

She did talk to management about the problem but they claim that they have passed health checks, so things couldn’t be all that bad. She never went so far as to talk to health inspectors because they didn’t come during her shift.

As a single mother of two, she did have to live on the breakfast food so she chose things that would not make her sick. This included unopened pastries or fresh waffle mix.

She would also try to take advantage of the omelet station because the odds of getting sick decreased when somebody was cooking the food in front of her.

Of course, many people had comments about her revelations, but one thing is certain, I will never look at continental breakfast the same way again.
