If you have ever had to replace a jar or two of honey that does not seem to have the same luster, you may have wondered if honey has an expiration date. While there are some who believe that honey lasts forever, there are others who question that.

As it turns out, properly stored honey never expires. However, improper storage can result in it going bad, though it’s pretty rare.

Foods that aren’t properly stored are going to look different than fresh foods, and honey is no exception. However, even if honey appears spoiled, it’s usually still fine to consume.

Yes, the cloudy appearance definitely indicates that it is a bit past its prime and if it looks white then it’s probably hardened up a bit. White honey indicates that the crystallization process may have begun, but it’s still perfectly fine to eat.

If the honey starts to crystallize, it’s an easy fix as well. Put the honey container in a bowl of hot water or place it in a bowl that is safe to microwave for 15 to 20 seconds.
