There are many tips circulating on how to avoid getting sick with the coronavirus. Washing your hands is important, but it’s also a good idea to stay away from crowded places.

If you happen to be in good shape with a strong immune system, you might not be concerned about running to your local grocery store. The issue comes about when some people with health problems try to make the same trip to the store and it was a bad idea. It is especially a bad idea when the store is a pharmacy where sick people tend to visit.

If you are already sick then you are at a greater risk than healthy people if you come in contact with new germs. Staying away from crowded stores is always a good idea, but people who are sick sometimes take prescription medications. That is why they may feel it is necessary to go to a pharmacy. But is it necessary?

According to an announcement from CVS, prescription medications are now being delivered for free. That’s excellent news for anyone who has a prescription to refill. According to the announcement, the free shipping policy is now in effect. There is not an end date at this time but it may not last indefinitely.

Here is some information from the press release:

“Beginning immediately, CVS Pharmacy will waive charges for home delivery of prescription medications. With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encouraging people at higher risk for COVID-19 complications to stay at home as much as possible, this is a convenient option to avoid coming to the pharmacy for refills or new prescriptions.”

That’s good news for anyone, but if you have Aetna insurance, it’s even better news.

“Aetna will waive early refill limits on 30-day prescription maintenance medications for all members with pharmacy benefits administered through CVS Caremark.”

Troyen Brennan, M.D., M.P.H., Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of CVS Health, provides further explanation:

“When you’re in a position to increase convenience and help provide some peace of mind, you act. As long as COVID-19 continues to be a threat, we’ll maintain a relentless focus on how best to serve our patients, members, and customers.”
