Now that summertime is here, it is time to enjoy one of our favorite aspects of the season. If you are anything like us, you have already been indulging in grill-cooked foods.

There’s just nothing like it, is there? However, those who are still tasting charred bits of last year’s grilling are not able to enjoy it as much as the rest of us.

This is understandable enough. After all, no one wants to be tasting last year’s food when they are trying to get their grub on. Fortunately, this amazing hack is here to make life easier for all of us. There’s no need for any artificial chemicals, either.

According to Southern Living, all you need to keep your grill clean is a grilling fork and an onion. Slice the onion in half and the debris can be removed with ease.

Stoke the flames on high when you are ready to get started. This allows you to burn off some of the food matter before you get started in earnest. From there, slice the onion in half and pierce with the grilling fork’s prongs. Take the side that has been sliced and scrub it along the grates to remove the trapped foodstuffs.

This will make the grill look nice and shiny. Best of all, the onion also works to make your grill safer for all of your guests. Onions have natural antibacterial properties that allow them to kill off unseen microbes that could cause bigger problems down the road. No, you cannot add it to your next burger, so please be forewarned there.

If you’d like to make use of the onion after utilizing it as a scrubbing pad, drop it directly into the coals. It will provide a sweet and smoky flavor to whatever you have decided to grill next. This is also a great trick for anyone who is looking to avoid the usage of a wire grill brush. These brushes can often cause more problems than they solve.

Bristles will often dislodge from the head of the brush, making their way into the food and causing issues for anyone who accidentally digests them. Did you know that these brushes are actually responsible for a startling number of medical incidents each year? Let’s all do our part to help each other avoid these types of nuisances by taking a moment to pass this one along. After all, cleaning the grill does not have to be so complicated!
