My mom’s favorite tuna salad recipe has finally made it to 12 Tomatoes. It follows a simple tuna recipe with just a few tweaks that makes it special. The trick is in the seasoning, the mayo, and adding chopped hard-boiled eggs. We love to snack on this for lunch all week on some soft sliced bread or just crackers.

What Ingredients Make Up A Classic Tuna Salad?

You’ll need:

  • Canned tuna.20 oz..
  • Mayo.
  • Celery.
  • Red onion.
  • Sweet pickle relish.
  • Fresh lemon.
  • Hard-boiled eggs.

The thing that makes this salad stand out is the eggs.

The eggs add a nice protein element outside the tuna that actually adds some good flavor to the salad. Good tuna recipes need time in the fridge, so let it sit in the fridge for at least 20 minutes before serving, especially with the eggs.

How Do You Make Classic Tuna Salad?

To start, you’ll want to drain your tuna cans. I like to use canned tuna in water instead of oil as a personal preference. It’s crucial to control the flavor and texture of the salad by draining the excess moisture. This way we can flavor it up with more things like lemon juice.

All that’s left is to pick your serving vessel of choice. On hot days that I’m spending outside, I prefer crackers. When I’m eating this salad inside, bringing it for lunch, I’ll make a sandwich. It’s such a tasty classic. Don’t pass this one up!
