The use of artificial intelligence has changed our lives in so many different ways. In some cases, it has put people out of jobs as robots and AI are able to do tasks that people were once employed to do.

That isn’t necessarily the case with Chippy, however, a robotic arm that was created by chipotle. They programmed the arm to make tortilla chips but they did it in a rather unique way.

According to Food & Wine, chippy was the brainchild created when innovators at chipotle worked along with Miso Robotics. That robotics firm has also created other fast food artificial intelligence, including a robotic arm that flipped burgers at White Castle in Chicago.

There is something delicious about chipotle tortilla chips, and it has to do with the way that humans make them. They wanted Chippy to do the same thing. Of course, Chippy will be making corn chips out of exactly the same ingredients but he is also going to add a little human imperfection in the process.

In a press release, Nevielle Panthaky, Chipotle’s vice president of culinary had the following to say:

“Everyone loves finding a chip with a little more salt or an extra hint of lime. o ensure we didn’t lose the humanity behind our culinary experience, we trained Chippy extensively to ensure the output mirrored our current product, delivering some subtle variations in flavor that our guests expect.”

You will likely see Chippy at many Southern California locations before too long but at this point, they are still putting the robot through the testing process.

It will also be interesting to see how Chipotle employees react to the new robotic addition to the assembly line. More than likely, they will appreciate getting some help and they might even like how unique it is.
