For those wanting to get into the Halloween spirit, but don’t really want to ruin their aesthetic with some of the cheesy Halloween decorations out there on the market today, we may have a solution for you. There are some dark-shaded succulent plants that are truly creepy-looking and are perfect to give your home that sophisticatedly spooky vibe.

If you love plants as well as Halloween, then these little succulent plants can be absolutely perfect for your home space. The dark succulents come in beautiful shades ranging from jet black to deep violet or even forest green. That have been springing up all over social media on Instagram or Twitter with the hashtags #GothPlants or #GothSucculents. And some of them even have leaves that are giving off some serious Demogorgon vibes from “Stranger Things.”

Now that you’ve been introduced to the world of dark succulents, going back to normal plants might be a bit of a stretch. You can go onto Instagram and search through loads of the pretty plants. According to TODAY, aeonium arboreum is commonly known as the “Irish rose” and ranges in color from purple to full black. There small enough that they can even be used to decorate an office desk or a living room table without being overwhelming. And the best part is, they don’t require a whole lot of care so you never have to be in fear of possibly killing your plants by mistake.

There are different varieties of Echeveria, meaning that you can easily find a nice dark shade to compliment your other autumn or Halloween décor like pumpkins and gourds and give a nice contrast. For example, there is one Echeveria plant called the Black Prince, which has dark leaves that can make a great centerpiece to any and all spooky celebrations. While the plant’s rosettes look black at first, they are in the fact a very deep shade of purple. The Black Prince is $9.85 on Amazon and when fully grown can measure up to six inches tall and eight inches wide.

But if you’re looking for something that is purely black then you may want to look at the Black Knight echeveria. Like succulents, they have rosettes that are thick and curved with pointed leaves. Initially, they start off as a bright green color, but then actually darken as they grow. You can also go for The Black Rose aeonium, which can grow up to 3 feet tall. The Black Rose aeonium has foliage that is a beautiful plum color and this one actually resembles a black rose. It’s a rare plant, but it’s pretty easy to grow. You can buy it on Amazon for $12.99

So if you are looking to get into an alternative way of decorating for Halloween this year definitely look into these succulents. Or, you know, if you just like succulents around your home then definitely keep these in mind if you want to switch things up a bit and go for the unexpected.
