The autumn season is one of those times of the year when decorations don’t always have to be tried-and-true heirlooms or traditions. It is a time of year to lean into your creative side and get a little whimsical without having to go out and buy a lot of expensive decor.

Getting a spooky holiday feeling doesn’t require a lot of money or any special coloring. Here, YouTuber Krysta Meeker shows that the Halloween season doesn’t need to have its own set of specific decor.
Layering is the key to creating a stunning display for holidays. Here, the table center is layered with a base of paper letters and then topped with flowers and dishes. The letters are antiqued and romantic, meaning they can be used in a variety of seasonal decorations. The flowers are a neutral tone, which, like the letters, allows them to be used during other seasons as well.

Texture is a great way to add decoration without breaking the bank. Since it is a spooky sort of theme, cobwebs are spread on top of books and display items, giving the display an extra oomph of visual interest. Since cobwebs have a matte texture, they look good draped over shiny, glittery, and glassy items. The texture stands out with intention when paired with something of the opposite top finish, like smooth leather-bound books, wooden painted figurines, and elements of glass.

While we always associate the seasons with a specific set of colors, autumn can look seasonal even with a neutral canvas. A dining room display of clear glass, black- and gold-rimmed teacups, toile-like patterned plates, and pewter-like plates doesn’t scream Halloween, but when layered and placed together, they make for a compelling place setting that combines elegance and a touch of spooky.
