Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

There are a lot of things that no one tells you will happen when you grow up. Taxes, sleep deprivation, stress, and a host of other things would turn most kids off if they knew what was in store for them one day. But, there are a lot of little things, none so severe as taxes, that no one ever talks about. Here are 10 things that definitely happen to most of us in adulthood.

10) Your Passions Change

You absolutely grow to have a favorite burner on your stovetop and this is especially true for electric stoves. Mine is the front right. Anyone who says they don’t have a favorite burner is lying.

9) The Classics

You have to get used to music you listened to in high school being known as “the classics.” Yikes.

8) Ugly Food

You will eat ugly produce because gosh darnit you paid for it. You also find that ugly food in general no longer grosses you out.

7) Inner Child

You have to be the parent and find yourself saying these phrases to yourself: “we don’t spend money just to spend money” or “we have food at home.” Yeah.

6) Alphabetical Order

You will still sing the ABC song (silently) in order to alphabetize things sometimes (ok most of the time actually).

5) Right Hand Man

Likewise you will probably still say in your head “righty tighty, lefty loosey” when assembling furniture or working around the house.

4) Leftover Paradise

As children we often don’t enjoy leftovers, but leftovers are extremely delicious to adults. This is especially true if you cooked it yourself and know all the yummy spices and ingredients you put in.

3) Gross Foods Now Delicious

“Gross” foods like peppers, onions, and mushrooms become cooking staples you buy every single week. It’s a wonder how most kids even get any vitamins at all, given the extremely limited tastes they usually have!

2) The Supermarket Isn’t So Super

Instead of looking forward to an excursion to the supermarket, you most likely view it as a chore as an adult. The store was so much more fun as a child!

1) Young at Heart, But Not the Rest

You still feel like a kid a lot of the time- until that back or knee pain flares up!
