Desserts are meant to be pretty, and when decorated adorably make you awe at their appearance. However, when does cute cross a line? Here cuteness moves over into a whole other level of realism, that might be too cute to eat.

At this bakery, they show the start-to-finish process of making these chocolate mousse cakes.

The base is a springy chocolate cake. With a cookie cutter, they punch out sections of the cakes and dip them into a simple syrup.

Next, a mixture of melted chocolate is blended with loose barely-whipped heavy cream. This mousse isn’t set with gelatin, so the bakers have to work fast in a warm kitchen.

The mousse hardens up into a matte texture perfect for replicating that dog fur-like quality.

After piping the mousse into the molds the cakes are inserted and then topped with even more mousse.

These puppies have to rest in the refrigerator for several hours before they can be released to be “adopted” by hungry customers. Since the mousse is so soft, the baker has to be careful. If they pull the mold off too fast the details on the mousse will be lost or damaged.

A few added touches are needed to complete the look. Dark melted chocolate is hand-piped onto the eyes and the nose, creating an ultra-realistic look. The simple ingredients transform into a puppy with big dark eyes, and a longing expression is a bit unnerving. The realistic qualities make it hard to eat something so cute.
