They say the eyes are the door to the soul, but for 9-year-old Pico, they may be the door to the universe.

Just one look at the unique feline will show you exactly why people are mesmerized with him: His eyes look like glowing, cosmic moons!

According to the New York Post, Pico’s 17-year-old owner, Monica, told Newsflash that Pico was diagnosed with bilateral glaucoma around five years ago.

The degenerative disease leads to blindness and Monica knew Pico would be headed in that direction before long. However, she never could’ve guessed how his eyes would change so drastically in just a few short years.

Since his devastating diagnosis, Pico’s once-green eyes clouded into two colorful orbs that have captivated people on the Internet.

Monica, who lives in Canada, regularly shares videos and photos of Pico and his unique eyes. She explained in one clip that she’d adopted him after he was hit by a car and left in a coma for three days.

Life hasn’t always been easy for Pico, since he’s had to overcome a close call with death and the loss of his eyesight, but Monica makes it clear that he’s enjoying life still.

She does her best to give him the highest quality of life she can, and he returns the favor by giving her companionship and a lot of love and cuddles.

Pico’s unique eye condition doesn’t come with just the challenge of blindness, either. He has to have special care, including daily eye drops. If you’ve ever had to give eye drops to a cat before, you know just how daunting that task can be!

Despite the extra work, Monica wouldn’t trade Pico for the world.

Monica further explained on TikTok that Pico doesn’t seem to be in any pain because of his condition. Sometimes, glaucoma can be painful in animals and their eyes have to be removed. If Pico’s eyes ever get to that point, they’ll have them removed.

She added that his eyes aren’t usually so big and “bulged” looking. Instead, he mostly opens his eyes wide when he’s outside or when he hears the treat bag.
