Our world can’t get enough of this classic sweet snack mix, so let’s add one more hazelnut-ty edition to the gang of delicious 12T puppy chow recipes. If there’s one thing we know about most here, it’s puppy chow. From Chocolate Orange Puppy Chow, to Strawberry Shortcake Puppy Chow, and Pistachio Puppy Chow, even Key Lime Pie Puppy Chow! Chex cereal was born for this! My vision for this puppy chow was that signature hazelnut flavor with a sploosh of Ferrero Rocher with toasted hazelnut pieces. This combination tastes just like you’re biting into one of those candies. The way the white chocolate Nutella mixture coats the rice chex to create clusters of crunchy hazelnuts attached to each bite worked way better than I could have imagined. For those of you who are on the fence about Nutella, but love Ferrero Rocher like me, this is one of those recipes you’re going to want to write down.

General Mills knew Chex was made for greatness, as a crunchy, perfectly hollow vessel to trap melted chocolate for puppy chow. Nutella I knew would make a great infusion simply by how it melts as a chocolate hazelnut spread, but I didn’t want milk chocolate to fight with the hazelnut flavor. Using white chocolate helps elevate the Nutella.

Now let’s talk about Nutella being overrated… I believe what makes Nutella delicious is all in that hazelnut flavor, but by itself, it’s too gummy. Far more gummy than peanut butter in my opinion. Last trip to Italy I went on they kept serving Nutella for breakfast and no peanut butter could be found! Where’s the peanut butter?

When I decided to make the Nutella puppy chow I wanted to elevate the hazelnut flavors with clusters of hazelnuts. It adds a completely different crunch than the Chex. A totally necessary addition. I wouldn’t be mad if you wanted to add even more salty crunchy things to the puppy chow, like broken-up pretzels or other chopped nuts.

Alright, I guess Nutella isn’t so bad after all. It actually tastes good when you mix it in with things, so if you’re like me, this puppy chow recipe will shock you. I just don’t like it on toast or with marshmallow fluff and that’s okay.
