What Number Do You See In This Optical Illusion?

@benonwine is the Twitter user who is responsible for this one so if this brain teaser messes you up, you have them to blame for that.

Many have commented with their answers and it has been fun to sift through each and every one of them. Now, the time has come for us to take a look at the original tweet for ourselves.

What do you see? The answers are probably going to vary greatly from person to person, that is for sure. Do you see the number that is present here? If you are anything like us, it probably took you awhile to figure it out. We can’t lie, it took us a bit before we were able to do so.

Don’t worry if you can’t figure it out, though. We are more than happy to walk you through it. At first glance, we presumed that there was a 2 in the picture. Once we kept looking, we realized that it was not that simple and we changed our answer to 528 instead. That was not even good enough, though. Lots of people claimed that the number was 45283 but they aren’t right, either.

So, what the heck are we looking at here? The actual answer is 3452839. It took us a long while to get it and we fully understand if others were not so lucky. It was a long, tough road and we are not going to pretend that the answer came to us immediately. Meanwhile, there are those who still can’t find the answer, even after they have had the chance to check it out for themselves.

That’s how you know that this puzzle is a real brainbuster. As it turns out, your inability to tell what is going on here is related to contrast sensitivity.

When we are given the chance to see black letters against a white background, it is easy to identify numbers. When everything is in differing shades of grey? It gets a whole lot tougher.

“I’m guessing the numbers you see depends on your ‘contrast sensitivity’ (different from what a standard eye measures). It can be tested by opticians. Worth doing if you’re struggling, as it can affect your ability to see at night, or in rain, fog, etc,” said LittleToRelate on Twitter. We could not have said it better ourselves!
