Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

Thanksgiving dinner is almost here and the turkey is always the most iconic aspect of the meal. While we love turkey as much as the next person, we have to admit that it’s not the part of the meal that we look forward to the most. For our dads and uncles, it is a chance to test out their latest carving gadgets. For the rest of us? It is a delivery vehicle for gravy. It’s also a chance to kill time until it is socially acceptable to have some pie.

But as anyone knows, Thanksgiving is all about the side dishes. A new survey is designed to show the world which of these sides each state of the US likes best. Zippia used Google trends to come up with their findings and the results are absolutely hilarious.

They mapped out the results (literally) and both mashed potatoes and green bean casserole seem to be quite popular, especially in the American Southwest.

Here is a map of the most popular Thanksgiving sides by state. What’s your favorite?

Stuffing is another popular dish, which we probably all expected. A more surprising favorite is mac and cheese, the favorite of 7 states! Rolls were somewhat popular as well, despite their somewhat simplicity. But overall, mashed potatoes was the ultimate favorite, being loved most by 10 different states.

The American people have spoken. They want their carbs and they want them now.

The map further provides us with a more interesting look at various regional food disputes. Anyone who has ever spent time with relatives from other parts of the country can probably relate to all of these silly battles that constantly take place.

Be sure to share this map with all of your friends and loved ones. It is time to compare notes and find out more about the best foods. Side dishes are the special something that makes Thanksgiving truly great.
