Making Mealtime Meaningful: Discover how we're giving back with the 12T Cares program →

We have a very nice jewelry collection but we can’t pretend that we don’t spend a lot of time maintaining it. Keeping jewelry in its best condition ensures it looks good and lasts a lifetime, but it can take time and be a bit tedious to clean every piece properly.

Thankfully, we don’t have to send our jewelry anywhere to have it cleaned. We can easily do it from the comfort of home thanks to a DIY jewelry cleaner.

In order to get started, all you need are a few simple ingredients:

– 1 tbsp liquid dish soap (like Dawn)
– 1 tbsp salt
– 1 tbsp baking soda
– 1 cup hot water
– 1 small or medium bowl

Combine all of the ingredients in the bowl and mix them together.

Next, take the jewelry that you are trying to clean and soak it in the mixture for roughly 15 minutes. The more tarnished pieces may need a little bit of extra love, so grab a soft-bristled brush (toothbrushes work well in these instances) and get to work.

Gently scrub the jewelry, rinse it off with water, and use a soft cloth to dry it.

While there are a number of jewelers who are more than willing to offer up cleaning products and solutions to help you restore the natural luster of your pieces, they tend to be on the expensive side. These solutions also come with a number of harsh chemicals that people are not looking to expose themselves to.

The next time that your jewelry is in need of a little love, be sure to pull up this tutorial. We already have it in our bookmarks and you should definitely be following suit.
