Woman From California Shares The Biggest ‘Shock’ She Experienced After Moving To Iowa

The prospect of moving from California to Iowa has to be harrowing for those who are not used to the differing cultures of the Midwest.

The woman in this story is here to share her experiences and you will be stunned by what she has to say. Katie Bishop (also known as @katphishhbishh) is the one who has made the move and we cannot stop laughing at this clip.

The CRNA student/podcaster made her way to Iowa and decided to provide us with an awesome video about the many differences between the two states.

“I just moved to Iowa after living my entire life in California, and it’s crazy different,” Bishop said in the clip. In fact, there are various perks that she loves about living in a place where the population is a bit smaller. As it turns out, it is much easier for her to get all of her shopping done in a timely manner now that she is living in the Midwest.

“You go to Trader Joe’s on like a Friday evening, and there’s not like 400 people in there, lines out the door,” she shares. We never thought of it this way before but we guess that this makes perfect sense. The population density is massively different. California ranks 11th in the country in this regard, while Iowa clocks in at 37th.

Bishop believes that this plays a major role in how kind these people are.

“The population is so low, but the size of the stores is the same or bigger,” she claimed. “And because the [employees] aren’t overworked … the workers are in a better mood.” This makes a lot of sense to us as well. These employees are not being pushed to the limit, so things are much easier for them.

While the world of TikTok seemed to agree with her, there were many who wanted her to keep their secret safe.

I could go on and on about all the differences between the two states and 90% would consist of the shock of the insane weather. #iowa #california #midwest

“Hey this is our secret no need to tell Californians about it,” said one user. “As an Iowan, it is such an underrated state! Cheap living, lower but not crazy small populations, land, no traffic,” chimed in another.

Then again, some people pointed out that shopping can take longer when you have to shovel snow from your driveway and de-ice your car before driving to the store – something many people in California can avoid. It’s all about perspective!
