The Humane Society of the United States was quick to respond to a call regarding suspected neglect of some dogs at a residence in Smith County, Texas.

When their response team arrived, they discovered 40 dogs on the property that desperately needed some help. Thankfully, they were able to remove all 40 dogs from the property and transport them to a rescue house in Maryland.

Once in Maryland, all of the dogs received fresh kennels to live in while they were assessed and examined by veterinarians. Several of the dogs ended up having minor injuries and issues, while others had more severe problems that would require the help of a specialist.

One of the dogs, for example, Bear, couldn’t; get his hind legs to keep up with his front legs. He wants to run so fast, but he requires help to get his back legs off the ground.

While in the care of the Humane Society, all of the dogs are receiving the care they need both physically and emotionally.

Staff and volunteers offer the animals regular enrichment activities and are working to get them comfortable with and excited about humans.

It’s likey that they’ll be ready to go off to their forever homes at different times, given their different needs and medical issues. But once each dog is ready, he or she will be posted for adoption and finally get the happily ever after they deserve.
