We’ve all heard the saying, “That’s the greatest thing since sliced bread!” Well, that has to mean that sliced bread is pretty impressive if it’s the standard by which we measure all other great innovations. We couldn’t agree more. We’re all about nifty little shortcuts in our cooking, as well as creative recipes. This list utilizes both! From appetizers to desserts, there’s something on this list for everyone.
Chicken Bacon Pinwheels
Doesn’t this look delicious? It’s like a toasted chicken bacon club sandwich, but in pinwheel form. It’s a great appetizer, or a main dish for lunch with a side of chips and fruit. Start out by laying nine slices of bread out on a piece of saran wrap. Then flatted the bread using a rolling pin.
Next, spread a layer of mayo on the bread, and layer of cooked and shredded chicken, ham, cheese, and bacon. Put a few dollops of mustard on, and then roll it up, using the saran wrap as a guide to keep everything together. Cut the log in half and toast up each side in a frying pan before serving.
Nutella Banana Crêpes
Start by cutting off the crusts of a slice of bread. Then, spread Nutella over the bread and top with banana slices. You can mix up the filling with whatever sounds good – peanut butter and jelly, chocolate spread and strawberries, the sky is the limit!
Roll the slices of bread into a log, and then dip them in an egg and cream wash. Sauté in butter, and top with whipped cream, cinnamon and sugar, or whatever else sounds good. Sure, these might not be the exact same as traditional crêpes, but they sure are an easy and delicious substitute!
Cheesy Lasagna Bread
Who doesn’t love the cheesy, carbalicious flavor of lasagna? With this recipe, you can get all of your favorite flavors in bread form! Start by making the creamy tomato sauce – onions, tomato puree, salt, pepper, basil, and a few dollops of crème fraîche warmed up in a skillet.
Place four slices of bread in the bottom of an 8×8 pan, and layer on sauce, ham, swiss cheese, and mozzarella. Repeat these layers a few times, and then bake at 400 for 15 minutes. That’s it! Get ready for your new favorite cheesy bread to impress friends and family.
Southwest Hot Pockets
These are the perfect finger food for any get together! Start by cutting the crust off a slice of bread and rolling it out flat with a rolling pin. Then, mix up the filling. Combine shredded chicken, corn, tomato paste, cream cheese, oregano, parsley, and salt and pepper.
Spread the filling out on half a slice of bread, and then fold into a triangle. Press the edges together with a fork to seal it up. Finish off by brusing on an egg wash, and sprinkling cheese on top. Bake at 350 for 12 minutes.
Ham & Cheese Egg Cups
Looking for an easy, yet impressive breakfast or brunch? We’ve got just the thing for you! These egg cups are not only delicious, but they are a healthy way to start the day! Grab some slices of your favorite whole wheat bread, and cut the crusts off. Then, place the squares into a muffin pan, pressing them in to make a little cup.
Add your protein – ham, bacon, whatever sounds good, and then crack an egg on top. Sprinkle with a little cheese, and then pop into the oven at 350 for 15 minutes. Top with fresh parsley, and serve these bad boys up!
