There is a certain art to shopping at Costco. Those of us who shop there on a regular basis are already well aware of the awesome deals and coupon codes that this retailer has to offer. There are even delivery deals that allow us to take full advantage of the deals that are on hand. However, there are some items that do not need to be purchased here.

For example, perishables are not recommended. Sure, the price might be right now but what happens when you end up throwing most of it away? That’s why cereal should not be purchased in bulk from Costco if you can possibly help it. The price per ounce is roughly the same as the price that would be paid at a local supermarket. Brand name cereals do not need to be purchased here.

Yahoo! Finance is responsible for this scoop and we are grateful to them for providing it. We can all fall into the trap of believing that bulk retailers should be our go-to for any and all purchases. It is easy to fall under the spell. That’s why we need to take our time and properly research these stores before we needlessly waste money on purchases that do not even allow us to save.

Head to the supermarket on the days when they are offering sales on their name-brand cereals if you would like to maximize your savings. These sales tend to take place on the weekends. Instead of spending 17 cents per ounce at Costco, you can go to the supermarket and spend 13 cents per ounce. All it takes is an eye for the deal but we believe in you!

You are a super saver or else you wouldn’t have a Costco membership in the first place. We all love to keep our eyes peeled for supermarket deals and we will be sure to pass them along as soon as we find them. Be sure to do the same for your friends and loved ones. Don’t fret, though. There is still no shortage of reasons to head to your local Costco when you are in need of various items.

The soda and hot dog combo are well worth your time. Where else are you getting this combination for just $1.50? The pizza slices and rotisserie chickens are also pretty awesome.
